In 2017, Michael Doyle launched Doyle Advocacy – a practice focused on commercial and real estate litigation. Following the quick success of the firm, he was joined in 2019 by long-time colleague, Matthew Barteaux, to practice as Doyle Barteaux LLP.
As the legal marketplace changes, they aim to be part of the new model: practical, experienced legal advice at manageable rates – focused on client service, and dedicated to getting results that work.
DOYLE BARTEAUX IS DEDICATED TO SERVING CLIENTS WHOSE DISPUTES NEED AN EXPERT HAND – AND DELIVERING THE BEST POSSIBLE OUTCOMES.
Michael was called to the bar in 2001, after receiving a Law degree at Queen’s, an Honours B.A. at the University of Toronto, and articling at the boutique litigation firm Hughes, Amys LLP.
He commenced practice in 2001 with Riley, McGivney Barristers, learning the craft of aggressive, but courteous, advocacy from senior Toronto lawyer Austin Riley. He hit his stride with motions, pre-trials, and trials, with primary responsibility for both plaintiff and defence files.
He then spent five busy years as a litigation associate at the full-service Bay Street firm Aird & Berlis LLP. He carried all manner of cases – professional negligence, insurance defence, business litigation, contracts and leases – and learned how to win them.
In 2008, he was brought in by Tarion Warranty Corporation, the industry regulator and warranty administrator for new home construction. For nine years, he was Tarion’s point man for difficult and complex disputes – whether homeowners, builders, purchasers or developers, all had a stake in Tarion’s coverage and discipline decisions. As Senior Counsel, he acquired the expertise and practical touch to manage these disputes to a successful resolution.
In 2017, he launched Doyle Advocacy – his new, private practice focused on commercial and real estate litigation. Following the quick success of the firm, he was joined in 2019 by long-time colleague, Matthew Barteaux, to practice as Doyle Barteaux LLP.
